As a child our founder, Vivyen Ayodele-Bamisaye, watched her parents battle diabetes and other lifestyle-related health challenges. Like many African families, sugar had become a regular part of everyday meals — yet its long-term impact was impossible to ignore.
Determined to find a better way, she began searching for healthier, natural alternatives that would not force families to choose between nutrition and taste. That search led her to one of nature’s oldest superfoods: dates.
What started as a personal lifestyle change soon became a family mission.
For over 18 months, Vivyen and her husband quietly used homemade date powder in their own meals — in pap, tea, smoothies, baking, and family recipes. Friends and relatives who tasted it kept asking the same question:

That simple question sparked the beginning of MacariusVille Dates and Foods Ltd with her husband Akintayo Ayodele-Bamisaye as Co-founder
From humble beginnings at their dining table, the business gradually grew into a purpose-driven food processing company dedicated to creating healthier African food alternatives using natural, locally sourced ingredients
Today, MacariusVille produces a growing range of natural, plant-based, preservative-free products made from dates, sweet potatoes, tigernuts, finger millet, Sesame seeds and other African superfoods. From date sweeteners and nourishing flours to healthy snacks and beverages, every product is created with one goal in mind: To help families eat better without losing the joy of food.
But our story goes beyond healthy eating
In Nigeria, thousands of tons of farm produce are lost every year after harvest due to poor processing and preservation systems. While farmers lose income, families struggle with rising food costs and limited access to nutritious foods. MacariusVille was built to become part of the solution.
By transforming highly perishable crops into shelf-stable, value-added products, we help reduce post-harvest losses while creating sustainable markets for smallholder farmers. Every batch we produce represents produce rescued, waste reduced, and income preserved within local communities. At the heart of this impact are women.
Women make up 90% of our workforce. Many are mothers and primary caregivers who previously had limited access to stable income opportunities. Through MacariusVille, they gain dignified employment, hands-on training, leadership opportunities, and a supportive work environment that allows them to thrive economically and personally.
What began as a small home-based operation has now grown into a dedicated production facility preserving tons of agricultural produce and serving health-conscious consumers across Nigeria and beyond.
Yet, even as we grow, our purpose remains deeply personal.
We are still the family that believes food should heal, nourish, and bring people together.
We are still the company that believes African superfoods deserve a place on the global table.
And we are still driven by the same mission that started everything: Creating healthier lives, empowering women, supporting farmers, and building a future where nutritious food is accessible, natural, and proudly African.
